Guide to Buying Local

In conjunction with our sponsored events and trainings, the Heartland Food Network will be creating a written resource for chefs, restaurants, and others looking to use local food in their establishments:  “Guide to Using Local Food in Food Service”. Users of the guide will find practical information and up-to-date list of farmers and distributors that sell to restaurants.   The target completion date for the Guide is Fall 2010.

Topics in the Guide will include:

  • Minnesota regulations on local foods purchases
  • Finding local famers, invoicing and organizing deliveries
  • Promoting your use of local food to your customers
  • Preparing and cooking fresh local produce
  • Fitting local food  into your budget and menu
  • Resource listing: staff at government and non-profit agencies

The Guide will be available for download from this site, and a limited number of printed copies will be available.

If you have any questions about the Guide, or you would like to suggest information to be included in it, please contact:
