College Campus Local Food Trainings
The Heartland Food Network works with university and colleges to help them use more local foods on campus. Many institutions know that using local food in their cafeterias can improve student health, support their local economies, and provide a differentiated and exciting dining experience for their students. Students love to support Minnesota farmers, the food is fresher, and the carbon footprint of this food is reduced compared to traditionally sourced products.
We know that bringing locally grown products into cafeterias can be a new experience for some foodservice directors. That is why we are sponsoring College Campus Local Food trainings, so colleges and universities can overcome barriers to using local food.
These trainings will provide information and practical tips for campus cafeteria chefs, food service directors, and school administrators who wish to use more local foods in their cafeterias.
These trainings will be held in the summer of 2010. Details will be announced as they become available.
